FAQs

Everything you need to know about selling your car.

Honest answers to the questions Essex drivers ask us most often. If yours isn't here, give us a call or drop us an email.

Getting a valuation

How accurate is the online valuation?

Very. Our pricing engine uses live UK auction data, trade values from the Glass’s Guide and Cap HPI, and our own buying activity in Essex. Provided your car matches the details you give us (mileage, condition, history), the price you see online is the price we pay.

How long does the valuation take?

About 60 seconds from typing in your registration to seeing your offer.

Is the valuation actually free?

Yes. There's no charge to value your car, no obligation to sell, and no need to provide payment details. We make our money buying cars at fair prices, not selling valuations.

How long is my offer valid for?

Seven days. After that, market prices may have shifted, so you'd need to re-run the valuation. If the market hasn't moved, you'll often get the same number.

On the day

What documents do I need to bring?

Your V5C logbook, one form of identification (for example a UK photocard driving licence or passport), all sets of keys, and service history if you have it. If your car has outstanding finance, also bring a settlement letter from your finance provider.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. We need a buyer free to inspect your car, paperwork ready, and payment authorised on the spot. Walk-ins risk waiting hours — a booked slot takes 30 minutes.

What if I can't make my appointment?

Just reply to your confirmation email or call us. Rebook for any other available slot — there's no fee and no limit on rescheduling.

How long does the appointment take?

About 30 minutes. We do a quick visual inspection, complete the V5C transfer, run any final checks, and send your payment.

Will the price drop when I get there?

No — provided your car matches the description you gave us online. The only time we'd revise an offer is if the actual condition or mileage is materially different from what you told us. We'll always show you exactly what's changed and why.

Payment

How do I get paid?

Bank transfer via Faster Payments — funds typically arrive within minutes. We'll do the transfer in front of you and wait until you've confirmed the money has landed before you leave.

Can I be paid in cash?

Yes, but please request it at least 24 hours before your appointment so we can arrange it.

Are there any fees or deductions?

None. No admin fee, no transfer fee, no DVLA notification fee, no ‘platform’ fee. The price we quote is the price you receive.

Special situations

Do you buy cars with outstanding finance?

Yes — around a third of the cars we buy have finance on them. Bring a settlement letter from your finance provider. If the settlement figure is less than our offer, we pay the lender directly and the balance to you. If it's more, you'll need to pay us the difference.

Can you buy a car that doesn't run?

Yes. We buy non-runners, MOT failures, cars with mechanical or electrical faults, and accident-damaged vehicles. We'll arrange recovery from your home if you can't get the car to us — just mention this when you book.

Do you buy electric cars and hybrids?

Yes. We're well set up to value EVs and hybrids — our pricing engine accounts for battery health, charging history, and current EV market values.

Do you buy cars without a V5C?

Generally no, but contact us first. If your V5C is genuinely lost, you can apply for a duplicate from the DVLA for £25 — it takes about a week. If you can wait, that's the cleanest route.

Do you buy classic cars or modified vehicles?

Yes, but we'll usually want to see photos before quoting. Reach out via our contact page and we'll arrange a custom valuation.

After the sale

Who notifies the DVLA?

We do. We submit the V5C transfer of ownership to DVLA on the day of sale. You'll receive confirmation from the DVLA in the post within five working days.

What about my road tax?

DVLA refunds any unused full months of tax automatically once we notify them of the change of ownership. The refund cheque or bank transfer arrives within four to six weeks.

Can I keep my private number plate?

Yes — but tell us before your appointment. You'll need to apply to retain the registration via the DVLA before we complete the sale (it costs £80 and takes about a week). We can guide you through the process.

Do I need to cancel my insurance?

Yes, contact your insurer to cancel or transfer the policy as soon as you've completed the sale. Many policies refund unused months minus a small admin fee.
